As we enter the last quarter of 2019 I want to provide you with a few updates regarding your private bank, Capital Security Bank Limited (CSB) and share some exciting new product information.
Since 1997, CSB has been a member of the Cook Islands financial services industry and we pride ourselves in being involved with our community. In June we sponsored the Cook Islands Paddling team to the South Pacific Games in Samoa - they raced well and returned with three bronze medals.
We recently blessed and launched the six person vaka "Taura Ariki" (a traditional paddling canoe) sponsored by CSB. We are very proud to be associated with a sport that is near and dear to the hearts of Cook Islanders. In a ceremony at the waterfront of Avarua attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, the local Pastor undertook a traditional blessing ceremony before the vaka set off. We’ll keep you updated on its journeys.
We value keeping your deposits secure and providing you with trusted and reliable service. It has been a tumultuous year in the world. With trade wars, Brexit, civil unrest in Hong Kong to name but three, the financial markets have reacted accordingly by taking a risk off approach in the face of lower growth or recession around the world and lowering of interest rates by Central Banks globally. At CSB, we ensure we maintain a high quality of assets invested to ensure we can provide you with the security and liquidity you desire. Client funds are invested in a portfolio of bonds or with banks that are rated investment grade by Standard and Poors. At the end of June 2019, 93% of investments were rated A- or better and the remainder BBB or better. Additionally, we have a very strong Tier 1 Capital ratio of 19.06%. We have provided our 2019 half year accounts on our website if you’d like a closer look.
We are always looking to enhance the services we provide and in June we advised you that we amended how we pay interest and the tiers at which monthly account fees are based. I am pleased that we have commenced paying interest on USD call accounts with balances over US$20,000 which has been welcomed by a number of you. We also don’t charge a monthly account fee if the total level of business you have with CSB is over US$500,000. I look forward to growing the business we have together.
A number of clients have asked CSB to provide a debit card. We have listened to this feedback and have been working this year to introduce a CSB Prepaid Debit Card which you can use to access your funds. It will be able to be used globally, wherever cards are accepted, and for online purchases. We are very excited by this new product and if you wish to be one of the first to have one issued to you, please register your interest via the below link.
